Arrowsmith Program

Posted: February 25, 2010

SCS is considering offering a very unique program for children with various learning disabilities called the Arrowsmith program.  It is designed to help with students having difficulty with reading, writing, mathematics, comprehension, logical reasoning, visual and auditory memory, non-verbal learning, attention, processing speed and dyslexia.  This program deals with the “underlying causes of learning disabilities by identifying and strengthening weak cognitive capacities.”   Their goal (taken from their website- www.arrowsmithschool.org) is for “students to become effective, confident and self-directed learners for life and to enable them to achieve their goals of academic and career success.”  This program was started in 1978 and is based on research in neuroplasticity or the brain’s ability to change with training.  A minimum of 10 students is needed to offer this program individualized to each student’s needs.  With Sarnia Christian School’s proven track record for academic excellence and their welcoming atmosphere, this appears to be a great partnership.
